In 2013, a photo album by photographer Kozaburo Tamamura (1856-1923), created by the request of an American publisher, was sold at an auction in Britain.

These pictures portray the scenery as well as people's lives in Japan over a 100 years ago.

Out of the album, we have selected 30 pictures that shows what Japan has gained and lost in the past century.
