The ambitious installations are particular favourites of Instagrammers and vloggers out to get a completely otherworldly shot.

After creating such a buzz around their work, teamLab are finally opening their own permanent museum in Tokyo, 'MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless'.

Transcending boundaries as a concept plays a big part in their work, and they explore this at length in the newly opening installations. The name of the museum, ‘teamLab Borderless’ refers to the lack of boundaries between the various art spaces. Elements of one installation may creep into another and seamlessly blend in, taking on a life of its own.

Through their interactive digital art installations, teamLab want to explore the relationship between humans, nature and art.

There are 5 spaces or ‘worlds’ that cover 10,000 square metres in size and make use of 520 computers and 470 projectors.

The first section, ‘Borderless World’, includes many exhibitions, and as per the ‘borderless’ concept the art installations can intermingle and even ‘communicate’ with each other. All the spaces are interactive and the physical presence of a visitor affects the artwork, transcending the boundary between art and viewer.

The 'Athletic Forest' world goes beyond just interactive and will fully propel you into the realms of active as you clamber over and jump around the 3D installations. You can even try out a three-dimensional bouldering activity.

There’s also a section dedicated to learning and discovering through art. At the Sketch Aquarium you can become an artist yourself and watch your own creations brought to life by teamLab's technology.

'The Forest of Resonating Lamps' is a particularly photogenic installation. The presence of the visitor illumnates the nearest lamp, which in turn starts a chain reaction of lights.

The final ‘world’ is a tea house. Although it may sound underwhelming at first, of course even the refreshments stand couldn’t escape the boundary-lacking art. Every cup of green tea comes with a projection in it, a flower that blooms as long as some tea remains in the cup. This really takes latte art to a new level.

The museum will open June 21st 2018 in Odaiba.
