Bisen Aoyagi
At 28, the beautiful master calligrapher Bisen Aoyagi has already made a name for herself, having exhibited at numerous galleries, performed live calligraphy for major Japanese companies and outside of Japan at expositions and cultural festivals. She also has a growing following on social media with nearly 89,000 fans on Instagram and over 25,000 on Twitter.
The most difficult kanji
In a video she posted on her Twitter account, Ms. Aoyagi shows off her skills by writing the most difficult kanji you've every seen. The video has gone viral with over 300,000 likes at the time of writing.
The kanji Ms. Aoyagi wrote is "biang," most commonly used for biangbiang, a type of noodles popular in the cuisine of China's Shaanxi Province. Made up of 58 strokes in its traditional form, it's one of the most complex Chinese characters in contemporary usage but Ms. Aoyagi makes it look easy. Executed with precision and elegance, the kanji looks like it's about to bounce off the page with a loud "biang"!
In addition to writing kanji, not all of them as complex as "biang," and posting them on social media for her fans to enjoy, Ms. Aoyagi keeps herself busy by collaborating her beautiful brushwork to various projects. For example, she created the logo for the recent anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's Dororo:
