Although she has a particular fondness for Caren Hortensia from hollow ataraxia, she has also cosplayed Nero Claudius (the gorgeous photo of which we chose as the title picture for this article) and Altoria Pendragon from Grand Order, Sakura Saber from Koha-Ace, Rin Tohsaka from stay night, Caster from Extra, Mordred from Apocrypha (racing ver.) and many others. Of course, she also enjoys cosplaying characters from other works as well, such as Sailor Moon, Kill La Kill and Idol M@ster Cinderella Girls. Interview grape Japan (gJ): Since when have you been cosplaying? Nagone Narukami (NN): For about six years now. My first cosplay was at a doujinshi event. gJ: Why do you cosplay? NN: I thought it would be fun to dress up like my favorite characters, so I thought I’d give it a try. But then, I got completely hooked! Nowadays, I think of cosplaying as one way of showing my love for the characters. gJ: Do you have a particularly memorable cosplay experience? NN: That would be Caren Hortensia (the main heroine of Fate/hollow ataraxia). I’ve adjusted her costume several times. Each time I cosplay her, I think I’m leveling up. She’s a character I truly love, so my experience cosplaying her is particularly memorable. With permission from © Candee, Inc. / Nagone Narukami gJ: Do you make your own cosplay outfits? NN: When it comes to outfits, I mostly make them by hand. That’s because there are things you just can’t get in a premade costume and even when you find it, the size often doesn’t fit me. gJ: Do all the characters you cosplay have something in common? If so, what is it? NN: If I could point out something they have in common, I’d say they’re a bit strong-willed and have tough expressions. I like strong girls. With permission from © Candee, Inc. / Nagone Narukami gJ: It seems you cosplay Fate series characters quite a lot. Is there a reason for that? NN: My first cosplay was a character from the Fate series. It’s a work I’ve loved ever since and will continue to do so in the future. There are many characters in it, and the number of characters I’m fond of continues to grow. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of cosplaying characters in the Fate series. NN: Since I often make my costumes myself, I do my best to make sure I don’t ruin the character’s image, paying attention to materials and the silhouette (the outline) in order to make it as close to the original work as possible. NN: I haven’t had the opportunity to attend events outside of Japan yet, but I’d really like to do so in the future. I’m really looking forward to it! gJ: Do you have any non-Japanese fans? If so, how do you interact with them? NN: I sometimes receive comments from people abroad through Twitter and other social media. Some of them can speak Japanese, so I’m very happy about that. For comments in English, I make full use of automatic translation tools. gJ: What do you think is your most attractive feature? NN: Maybe my nose… I don’t know if it’s attractive, but maybe it stands out. With permission from © Candee, Inc. / Nagone Narukami gJ: Do you have any hobbies aside from cosplaying? NN: Since I’m an otaku, I often watch anime. I also love movies and TV dramas, so when I have time, I just keep watching them. Recently, I’ve been watching Sherlock, Criminal Minds, and Case Closed (Detective Conan). gJ: The other day, on July 5th, you participated in your very first talk event. How was it? NN: I got nervous, but I was saved by the audience’s kindness that day! Also, thanks to Miyamoto-san and Kurea-san who participated with me, I had a lot of fun at the event! gJ: Going forward, is there anything new you’d like to try? NN: For one thing, I’d like to participate in events outside of Japan. I’d also like to create my own original cosplays. With permission from © Candee, Inc. / Nagone Narukami gJ: What’s your favorite food? NN: Borscht and melonpan! gJ: Finally, would you like to say anything to grape Japan readers? NN: I’m just an otaku but I’d like to continue doing all kinds of activities in the future. I’d be happy if you checked my Twitter account. Thank you so much for reading this far!
