Fruit smoothies should be the perfect treat for someone on a plant based diet, but in the case of the more ostentatious looking treats, such as the smoothie bonbons from Botanist cafe in Tokyo, they use cream and other dairy products that make them a no-go for vegans.

The brand Botanist actually makes hair and body care products, but they’ve crossed over into cafe territory with their set-up in the trendy haven of Harajuku. The cafe is known for their super Instagrammable drinks and desserts that also claim to have detoxing, beautifying effects among other health benefits, from the use of superfoods and fresh ingredients.

But did you know they also have various vegan and vegetarian items on the menu?

Vegan Drinks and Desserts in Harajuku, Tokyo

Vegans need not feel left out any longer, as the Botanist café have smoothies that use soy cream and soy yoghurt as ingredients.

The menu is seasonal and changes all the time, but at the moment the vegan drink on offer is the Fig and Berry Smoothie Bonbon. They claim this autumnal beverage should flush out all the damage you did to your body during summer with blackberries, mixed berries, soy yoghurt and granola. This ‘guilt-free’ dessert should also promote good skin and hair.

Healthy Vegan Meals Too!

Aside from the smoothie, they also have plenty of other delicious looking vegan meals and desserts. Until the end of October you can even get some Halloween themed edibles with no animal products involved!

Although not everything on the menu is vegan, items are clearly marked as vegan, vegetarian or gluten free, which is somewhat of a rarity in Japan.

So if you’re sick of seeing delectable looking sweets, only to discover they're smothered in dairy, why not give the Botanist cafe a try?
