Yohane? Little Demons? Numazu? The juxtaposition of words in our title may have raised a few eyebrows. Unless, of course, you're a fan of the popular anime Love Live! Sunshine!!, in which case you'd surely recognize Yoshiko Tsushima's preferred self-appellation, the term of endearment she uses for her friends, and the name of the city where most of the anime takes place.

Numazu Burger

Located in the Numazu Harbor Restaurant Area, known for serving fresh seafood, including deep-sea fish, Numazu Burger serves up some of the tastiest seafood burgers in Japan. Some people even come from Tokyo and other prefectures just to enjoy popular items such as their famous "deep-sea fish burger" (made with Glossanodon semifasciatus, a deep-sea smelt), their deep-sea shark burger made with two kinds of deep-sea dwelling sharks and their kinmedai burger (also known as "splendid alfonsino" or "golden eye snapper," kinmedai is highly prized for its moist and flavorful flesh). They also serve delicious burgers made with more common denizens of the sea such as salmon burgers, tuna burgers, horse mackerel burgers and much more. You can even have hamburgers and cheeseburgers if you're allergic to seafood or simply prefer meat.

Depending on which direction you approach it, you'll either come through the parking area and see the side of the shop here...

...or walk along the main street to the front entrance. The Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium is just next door.

As soon as you step inside, you'll realize why this establishment is cherished by Love Live! Sunshine!! fans.

Before we could explore the restaurant's connection with the anime, however, we were very hungry after many hours of walking around on a quest to find all of the Love Live! Sunshine!! manhole covers, so we ordered a few items from the menu.

When we placed our orders, we noticed that even behind the counter, there were anime goods, stickers from the manhole cover crowdfunding campaign (perhaps the shop manager participated) and a promotion poster for Aqours' 4th single, where Yohane is in center position.

Fresh and tasty seafood in a casual setting

Deep-sea fish burger: 680 JPY

The deep-sea fish burger was moist and delicious, the breading crispy and light, and the aurora sauce added just the right kick to it. The fries which come on the side were piping hot and salted to our liking.

Deep-sea shark burger: 680 JPY

We were a bit apprehensive about the deep-sea shark burger but it also turned out to be an excellent choice. The two shark meats were well blended in the patty, making it satisfyingly flavorful but not overpowering. Served with a generous amount of sweet freshly shredded cabbage and a slice of American cheese, it was easy to see why it was the most popular item menu at the time we visited.

Kinmedai Burger: 750 JPY

Since the splendid alfonsino usually comes with an equally splendid price tag when it appears in Japanese seafood markets, being able to enjoy it for only 750 JPY was an offer we couldn't refuse. Light, subtly flavorful and moist, wrapped up in a crispy breading, seasoned with lemon juice and a house-made tartar sauce, the kinmedai burger was one of our favorites.

Datenshi no Ohbu (limited collaboration item): 750 JPY

After sampling these wonderful burgers, the Love Live! Sunshine!! fan in our reporting crew was itching to turn his attention to everything "Yohane" in the shop, so the last item we ordered was Datenshi no Ohbu 堕天使の宝珠 (which translates as "Orbs of the Fallen Angel"), a special collaboration menu item with Love Live!! Sunshine! For 750 JPY, it comes with an exclusive A5 size plastic folder printed with an image of Yoshiko in a very "Yohane" moment and the words "Yohane the fallen angel" in the background. As for the orbs, they're spicy octopus fritters, and quite delicious too.

Note: Since January 4th, 2019, Numazu Burger has launched their second round in their Yohane-themed collaboration menu, "The Unnamable Dark One" (spicy squid and wood ear mushroom fritters) which you can see here.

Love Live! Sunshine!! (mostly Yohane) Fandom

At this point, we had to let our fan boy loose in the restaurant to snap pictures as he pleased.

This is literally a shrine for fans of Love Live! Sunshine!! with a particular focus on Yoshiko Tsushima, aka Yohane, since Numazu Burger was briefly featured in Episode 5 of Season 1: "Yohane Descends".

Stickers, posters, fan art, all manner of goods and memorabilia decorate the seats, table tops, side panels, the windows, walls of the store, and even the trash disposal counter was covered in all things Love Live! Sunshine!! and Yohane.

Seating Area

The seating area closest to the entrance is the best place for fans, as you can see in the photos below:

On a special segment called Tekuteku Aquours included in the Japanese Bluray for Season 1, the voice actresses for the three first-year students visited Numazu Burger and sat here. Ever since then, the table is known as the Aquours Table

The window seats also offer many attractions for Yohane fans...

With the candle in the middle, this is almost like a mini altar to the fallen angel...

Other areas

This counter had more manhole cover crowdfunding campaign rewards, official goods, as well as fan art.

Speaking of fan art, on this counter, there's even an album you can flip through (and presumably, contribute to as well) containing fan art by visiting patrons. There's also a CD player, presumably to play the lastest Aqours tunes...

Numazu Burger is a highly recommended destination not only for Numazu visitors who want fresh and tasty seafood in a casual setting, but obviously for Love Live! Sunshine!! fans on a pilgrimage to Numazu, and an absolute MUST for all you little demons out there...
