Whether it be New Japan Pro Wrestling, All Japan Pro Wrestling, Wrestle-1, overseas work, or any of the numerous promotions he's excited with his work as The Great Muta, if you're a professional wrestling fan, Keiji Muto is probably one of the first names that springs to mind when you mention Japanese wrestling. Despite such accolades as holding the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, AJPW Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship, and the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, even a wrestler as legendary as Mutoh can slip up here and there.
Unfortunately for Muto, he happened to be naked when he slipped up.
Muto recently posted a photo of himself enjoying a relaxing onsen (Japanese hot spring) in Hakone. Although obviously in the buff to enjoy the soothing waters of the natural bath, he makes sure to cover his privates with a wooden bucket used to pour water over oneself. However, if you click on the Twitter thread and check even just the first comment for a zoomed-in pic, it appears that many fans believe that Muto wasn't able to actually cover his nether regions for the three count!
After warnings and ribbing from fans and fellow wrestlers alike, Muto responded--but not by taking down the pic or apologizing for any mishap. Instead the celebrated wrestler said it was all a misunderstanding:
"An urgent notice! Everyone, you seem to have misunderstood...what looks like my...'thing' is actually this handle (of the washing bucked)!! Unfortunately, I am not this big!"
While some fans remain in disbelief, many responding seem to appreciate Muto's effort to clear his name:
"The `handle` is also very admirable!"
"I love that once your privates got spotted, you rushed back into the bath to take this picture."
"Well, that's not fair!"
"Well that's a funny looking handle. Whoever made it must have been thinking of something else..."
