The tanuki, also known as raccoon dog, is a creature often found in Japanese mythology. According to legends, they can magically transform, even taking on a human appearance in order to cause mischief.

Although this tanuki, who lives in Hokkaido's Obihiro Zoo, hasn’t transformed, there’s something very human about this look that she gave the staff after accidentally upturning her bowl.

Japanese Twitter users were quick to point out that her face looks exactly like this popular emoticon.

( ´・ω・`)

Anyone who’s ever dropped some food on the ground can relate to her exasperated facial expression.

But the zoo staff assured everyone that she had, in fact, already finished her food before kicking the bowl over. Perhaps her expression was just a tanuki trick to try to get more!
