Japanese Twitter user and floral artist inori(@kusabanaasobi)has a hobby of crafting decorations and animal figures out of plants. While she has quite a few fascinating floral art creations under her belt, she was surprised to find out that her latest piece had the added bonus of changing appearance over time.
Using some fallen ume, or Japanese plums, inori created a trio of "plum children", fitting dead branches onto them as limbs and adding some cheerful faces.

The adorable plum children look like benevolent forest spirits you might find in a Studio Ghibli anime or something out of LittleBigPlanet, but inori soon discovered that the children grow up fast. Four days later, she discovered that the children had quickly become senior plum citizens!

As it turns out, ume don't take that long to shrivel up, and that added some wrinkles of old age to the now elderly plum children. While they may not be sporting their original youthful features anymore, they remain as cute as ever, and are now another part of inori's growing collection of natural art.
