The Shikoku Health and Welfare Bureau and local authorities announced on June 18th that a 27-year-old man has been arrested in Tokushima for possessing 50 tablets of MDMA (ecstasy), violating Japan's Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Law. According to The Asahi Shinbun, a majority of the tablets were shaped like Wario from the Super Mario Bros. series.
The company employee had previously been arrested from smuggling LSD and MDMA from Spain and the Netherlands, as well as possessing cannabis in his home. The department stated that in recent years, character-shaped drug tablets found in Japan had been steadily increasing in number.
