We Tried “Weathering with You” x Lawson Collaboration Frozen Drinks

As anticipation for Makoto Shinkai's latest film "Weathering with You" rises in advance of its July 19th theatrical debut, the commercial campaign is getting into full gear. Collaborations have already been announced with Misawa Homes real estate, the Baitoru part-time work listing service, Softbank mobile phone and its music service, to name a few.

We will surely see even more once the film hits theaters, but fans can already "get a taste" with a pair of frozen drinks made in a collaboration with Japanese convenience store chain Lawson:

"Sunshine" and "Rainfall" Sodas

Offered as part of Lawson's popular Machi Cafe Frozen Party frozen drink line, these two special collaboration drinks follow the theme of the film, Amefuri Soda 雨ふりソーダ representing rainfall and Hare Soda 晴れソーダ representing sunshine.

Since they just went on sale, we headed for the nearest Lawson and brought them back to the office to try them.

Normally, the convenience store clerk will thaw it in the microwave oven for you but you can also opt to take it home as is, which we did. All you need to do is put it in at 500 watts for 70 seconds and you're ready to go.

Hare Soda 晴れソーダ

The graphic on the front of the cup shows the teruteru bōzu sunshine prayer dolls hanging from an umbrella as seen in previews for the film, and rays of sunshine pouring down.

On a base of refreshing Japanese "soda" (lemon-lime) slush, they've added a layer of iced milk made with cream from Hokkaido, which they topped with colorful pink marshmallows and peach sauce.

Amefuri Soda 雨ふりソーダ

On a base of "white soda" (sweet and mild yogurt flavor) slush, they've added cotton candy flavored ice cream colored grey to represent rain clouds, and topped it with yellow marshmallows and yellow pineapple sauce representing lightning bolts piercing the clouds.
