As a general rule, children are more likely to get praised than adults. Some may not be so fortunate, but many of us can remember at least one time in our lives when parents, family members, caretakers or teachers praised us when were kids.

But then we become adults, and the compliments become more scarce.

"I put it in a decent effort every day, but nobody seems to give me any praise. It would be nice to get a compliment once in a while."

Do you ever catch yourself having these thoughts? If you do, or if you'd simply like some cheering up for whatever reason, you might be interested in a new concept called "Homeru Bar" appearing in Osaka for a limited time next month.

Homeru Bar

On September 13th to 16th, at the LUCUA osaka department store adjacent to Osaka Station, Homeru Bar will be open for business from 3pm to 8pm.

In Japanese, homeru ほめる or 褒める means "to praise," so the name literally means "praising bar." For the modest fee of 500 JPY, you can choose between nine qualified "praise-meisters" who will lend a sympathetic ear, talk to you kindly, identify things they think are good about you and then serve up the compliments. The praise will flow freely, so you're sure to feel good when you walk out.

If you'd like to learn more about the staff before you make a selection, here are the ones we were able to find on social media: Koji Yamanaka, Mizuki Nakanishi, Akifumi Gunji, Yuki Miyamoto, Masaya and Ryo Saito.

Homeru Bar is part of a project called Mōsō Shop 妄想ショップ (Shop of Fantasies) run by the JR West Japan Shopping Center Development Company which owns the Lucua osaka department store. The concept is to take wishes and desires collected through their Tokimeki Department トキメキデパート (thrilling department store) Instagram account and responding to them in the form of limited-time shops at Lucua osaka.
