Episode 10: Special Guest Kaede Higuchi

Ohamonii~
Welcome to another episode of YuNi no All Night Nippon i
Today, YuNi was joined once again by fellow Vtuber Kaede Higuchi, or Derōn-chan, as she likes to be called.

YuNi and Kaede make a new jingle

Just like she did with Haneru Inaba in Episode 6, YuNi made a new jingle with Derōn-chan for the show. They had three versions. The first one was the most conventional one, with both of them simply saying the title of the show. It was perfect. YuNi joked that the reason they synchronized so well is because they're both blondes.

The second jingle was Derōn-chan by herself. She recommended Minecraft to YuNi because she can use her creativity run wild, which would also be fun for her fans (presumably if she tried it on her YouTube channel).

Finally, the third version was shiritori, a popular word game in which you have to say a word that begins with the last syllable of the previous word your partner said. YuNi and Derōn-chan played a shiritori focused on tasty foods. It started out normally, with momo (peach) to mochi-mochi dango (chewy mochi dumplings), then goma (sesame seeds) sprinkled on tofu. But then, Derōn-chan's imagination literally took off with "fūsen (balloon) my mom rode to fly away somewhere." YuNi and Derōn-chan tried to outdo each other with progressively lengthy and bizarre nouns phrases. It ended with YuNi saying "sunagimo (chicken gizzards) belonging to an old man whose teeth are falling out" and Derōn-chan replying with "tsubugai (whelk) which I ate so much of I thought I couldn’t eat any more and would never have it again but I still love to eat"! Both of them agreed that third jingle was way too lengthy.

This week's nihongo tip

  • Japanese:もう食べれへん
  • English transliteration: Mō tabere-hen
  • Meaning: I can't eat anymore
  • Comment: If you don't want to say it in Derōn-chan's charming Osaka dialect, the standard Japanese version would be もうたべれない mō taberenai

Here's how YuNi used it on the show:

  • Original: もう食べれへんというぐらいお腹(が)いっぱいになっ(た)…
  • Transliteration: Mō tabere-hen to iu gurai onaka (ga) ippai ni nat(ta)...
  • Translation: My stomach was so stuffed I couldn't eat anymore...
  • Comment: Derōn-chan's sentence continued after that so she actually used te at the end to connect it with another clause, but if you're stopping your sentence there, you should end the verb with ta

And here are a few more examples:

  • 1. とても美味しかったけど、もう食べれません。
  • Totemo oishikatta kedo, mō taberemasen
  • It was very tasty but I can't eat anymore.
  • 2. お腹がいっぱいで、もうたべれないよ
  • Onaka ga ippai de, mō taberenai yo.
  • My stomach is full so I can't eat anymore.

YuNi music selection

【Kingdom Hearts】"Hikari"

When Kingdom Hearts 3 was released at the beginning of the year, YuNi was very excited about it, so she recorded this cover of Hikara Utada's theme song "Hikari" (which you may know as "Simple and Clean") from the first Kingdom Hearts.
