Episode 18: Special Guest Aoi Fuji

Ohamonii~
Welcome to another episode of YuNi no All Night Nippon i
Continuing from last week, YuNi was joined in the studio by fellow Vtuber Aoi Fuji.

Advice Corner: Aoi's turn

After answering listeners' questions in the live portion, it was time for YuNi to answer a question from her guest Aoi. The tone of this episode was a bit more serious than usual, since Aoi had a question about a behavior pattern she wanted to correct.

Aoi explained that she starts doing one thing—working on a Tweet, for example—but then, in the middle of composing the text, she'll remember something else, like a follower's comment she wanted to reply to, and jump on that instead. Or, as another example, she begins writing a blog post but then she'll remember there was another subject she wanted to write about and starts doing that. As a result, her workload increases and she ends up having a hard time completing things.

YuNi said that she deals with her tasks effectively by writing a prioritized To Do list at the beginning of the day. She also suggested that Aoi could get used to leaving things half done in order to finish important things first. Finally, she suggested that Aoi didn't need to cover all the bases when replying, and comments which were a bit "incomplete" weren't necessarily bad since they left more to the follower's imagination!

This week's nihongo tip

  • Japanese: 本気
  • English transliteration: honki
  • Meaning: serious, seriously, earnest, earnestly
  • Comment: 本気 is rarely used as a noun and most commonly used as an adjective or adverb.

Aoi used it twice on the show:

  • Original: これはね、ちょっと本気で考えてきたよ
  • Transliteration: kore wa ne, chotto honki de kangaete kita yo
  • Translation: You know, this... I actually thought about it seriously.
  • Original: ~というのが本気の悩みで...
  • Transliteration: ~to iu no ga honki no nayami de...
  • Translation: ...and that's my serious problem...

Here are a few other examples of how you could use it:

  • Example 1: 本気ですよ
  • Transliteration: honki desu yo
  • Translation: I mean business / I mean what I say
  • Example 2: 君本気か?
  • Transliteration: kimi honki ka?
  • Translation: Are you for real? (Only used in casual conversation)
  • Example 3: 本気でかかってこい!
  • Transliteration: honki de kakatte koi!
  • Translation: Bring it on! Give me all you've got! (Used for fight scenes or competitions in manga and anime, etc. or in real situations as a joke)
