Sawajiri Erika, a Japanese actress famous not only in Japan, but overseas too, was arrested for possessing MDMA and affirmed that she has been using not only MDMA, but also LSD and other illegal drugs such as cocaine for more than 10 years now. Sawajiri declared that she kept taking drugs, despite knowing the consequences and that she might be arrested.

Erika, now 33 years old, was arrested on Saturday, November 16th, for possessing MDMA, a drug also known as ecstasy or molly, in her apartment in Meguro, Tokyo. 0.09 g of powder, found in two capsules inside a box was confirmed by the actress to be hers.

According to the police, she knew that many celebrities were recently arrested for the same crime, so she tried to be careful about it. She also states that she didn’t want to involve her coworkers and family, so she is deeply remorseful about her behavior.

The police is currently investigating more details regarding where she got the MDMA, as they found out she received it a few weeks ago at an event.

The Metropolitan Police Department has been investigating this matter, as it is believed the drugs might have been obtained and used in clubs.

The day after she went to a club in Shibuya, Tokyo, she was caught in possession of the capsules. Actually, it is confirmed that a man was also caught on the 10th of this month on suspicion of using MDMA in the same place.

The police received a report that a man possessed illegal drugs, so a police officer rushed in. Even though the man didn’t have any drugs on him, after some tests, it became clear that he had been using drugs.

Sawajiri Erika is an important figure in the Japanese film and TV world. She has had many important roles in popular TV Dramas such as “1 Litre of Tears” or films such as “Ningen Shikkaku: Dazai Osamu to 3nin no Onnatachi” (“No Longer Human: Dazai Osamu and his 3 Women”), based on Osamu Dazai’s novel, which came out this fall and also featured Shun Oguri in the titular role. Erika played Shizuko Ota, one of the author’s lovers.

She was also scheduled to play Oda Nobunaga’s wife, Kicho in an NHK drama to be broadcast in 2020, "Kirin ga Kuru," so the news about her arrest was probably shocking to her coworkers and her fans.
