The reborn Shibuya Parco opened its doors to the public on Friday, November 22nd.

Charles Tempo pop-up store at Shibuya Parco

Always attentive to Japanese pop culture, one thing caught our attention during the press-oriented tour we were given by Parco. Of course, we were mostly looking forward to covering Japan's first Nintendo store and the unique Pokemon Center on the 6th floor, but as we passed by the 5th floor, we saw the instantly recognizable anime figure of the 1980s, Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel, in one of the shops. We quickly snapped a few pictures and vowed to investigate this later.

As it turns out, this is Charles Tempo, a unique pop-up shop featuring a triple collaboration between Charles Chaton, a fashion brand promoting an ephemeral girly look, the Korean DJ and trackmaker Night Tempo, figurehead of the future funk subgenre of vaporwave and curator of 80s retro culture, and of course, Creamy Mami.

In a first step, Charles Tempo is selling long-sleeved T-shirts, hoodies and stickers featuring these two designs:

According to press release, the popup store allows you to "shop as if you were sifting through records at a record shop" and intends to convey a retro 80s mood.

You can also get a set of three stickers including the exclusive large Charles Tempo sticker reminiscent of one of Night Tempo's album covers:

In a second round on sale from December 8th, Charles Tempo will unveil an original illustration featuring Creamy Mami doing Night Tempo's signature pose:

Night Tempo store visit

If you come to Charles Tempo at 15:00 on December 8th (Sun.), you'll have a chance to meet Night Tempo in person, and if you buy something from the store, you can even take a photo with him at a special photo booth set up in the shop for the occasion.

(Although not connected to Charles Tempo, Night Tempo will also be playing a cassette DJ set a few hours later in Daikanyama's Tsutaya bookstore from 6 pm to 7 pm. Visit the link for more details, and check out his page on Bandcamp).
