Alice in Fantasyland in downtown Kita, Osaka is a “fantasy buffet restaurant” that’s themed after, you guessed it: Alice in Wonderland. The interior of the restaurant is intricately decorated with a hodgepodge of motifs that were inspired by the original Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland novel by Lewis Carroll.

You’ll find decorations such as oversized playing cards, mismatched dining chairs, and even pages taken straight from the book that stand out as wall designs.

From early February however, they’ll be holding a buffet that’s an absolute feast for the senses. Instead of the usual, often savory dishes you might find at regular buffet, they’ll be focusing on strawberries as the main ingredient.

Alice’s Fantasy Strawberry Buffet will have over 30 different types of strawberry-based sweets. Although the themed restaurant is open everyday, the strawberry sweets buffet will only happen every Sundays and holidays from February 2 to April 29, 2020.

Despite its limited run, they didn’t seem to cut any corners, since the desserts they’re serving are quite the visual treat. The strawberry-flavored cheesecake for instance, was meant to conjure up an image of a clock face, with two chocolate sticks in the middle meant to represent an edible version of clock hands.

The strawberry macarons are not only flavored as such, but they were decorated to look like strawberries too, complete with the tiny green leaves on top.

The strawberry roll cakes are meant to look like pink rabbits, and they even have tiny rabbit ears popping out. The inside of the cake is also filled with cream, which makes it all the more luscious to dig into.

Many people aren’t aware that Lewis Carroll actually came out with a sequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, through another novel titled “Through the Looking Glass”. And it seems like the creators of the restaurant know their stuff, since they haven’t limited their inspiration to just the original novel.

The next cake item has paired up slices of chocolate cake and cheesecake arranged to look like a chess board, one of the things that was featured in the sequel.

Lastly, if you’re not really down for desserts, you can come back later in the day for the restaurant’s special dinner course. Aside from having sweets such as parfait on the menu, it also comes with more savory types of food such as cheese fondue, roast chicken and vegetables, and a salad that’s decorated with colorful eggs.

Alice’s Fantasy Strawberry Buffet is happening from 12:30 to 14:30 every Sunday (except for holidays) from February 2 to April 29, 2020. You can also check which days the buffet will be held here.

The fee for the buffet is 2,980 yen for adults and 1,480 yen for children under 10 years old. You can see more information on the restaurant, make reservations and see the full list of buffet options through their website here.
