Although you can’t beat the real thing, cherry blossom itself is fleeting, and sometimes, depending on the weather or other external factors, it’s better to just embrace other more reliable ways to celebrate spring.

One super popular seasonal event which has been popping up in Tokyo for the last few years is the Sakura Chill Bar.

Tokyo's Cherry Blossom Bar Back for 2020

The main attraction of the limited-time-only venue is the pool filled with 1.2 million imitation cherry blossom petals. The aesthetic is further compounded by a large tree with artfully draping branches over the pool. You can get in with your companions and take pictures fully immersed in the spirit of spring.

The petals come up to knee height but it’s easy enough to lie down and pile them up on yourself, for a more immersive photo opportunity.

In the same vein as last year, the bar has collaborated with businesses from Saga prefecture to offer Saga-produced sake and strawberries as refreshments during the indoor flower viewing party.

But this time they’ve gone all out, creating elaborate parfaits and dessert pizza. (Full menu and prices available on official website.)

This year’s Sakura Chill Bar is taking place inside an already established restaurant, but in order to enjoy the cherry blossom pool, each person must order at least one set from the Sakura Chill Bar menu (prices start at 1000 yen).

The bar doesn’t accept reservations and due to its popularity there’s usually a massive wait, so arrive early to get your indoor sakura viewing experience!
