Creative company Konel Inc. has announced they will be participating in the futuristic Open Meals project with a new twist on traditional Japanese sweets called Cyber Wagashi.

Open Meals, which aims to digitize food and create a digital platform where everyone can share food across the globe, has already received international attention for their Sushi Singularity concept restaurant, scheduled to open later this year.

Cyber Wagashi

"Cyber Wagashi" is a wagashi that uses a 3D printer to develop a proprietary algorithm based on weather data.

Climate change and the stress of urban life has made it more difficult for many city-dwellers to get a sense of the four seasons the way they used to. Through Cyber Wagashi, you'll be able to see and enjoy Tokyo's "sky" through Japanese sweets customized in shape and color to reflect the wind speed, atmospheric pressure and temperature of the day you visit.

Here, you can see examples based on the specific meteorological conditions of various days.

From left to right, top to bottom:

  • The hottest day of the Heisei Era (2004/07/20)
  • The forecasted hottest day 100 years from now (2120/08/21)
  • The coldest day on record (1876/01/13)
  • The earliest day that the peak of the cherry blossom season was announced (2002/03/21)
  • The day of a super typhoon 80 years from now (2100/09/23)
  • The day humans first set foot on the moon (1969/07/24)
  • The day an airplane flew over Tokyo's skies for the first time (1910/12/19)
  • The day of a solar eclipse in the Heisei Era (2016/03/09)
  • The day that the human genome sequence was completed (2003/04/14)
