Production of the “Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020” has been discontinued, Yahoo Japan reports, via an official statement from the program's official website. The cancellation of the season follows the tragic passing of cast member and Japanese professional wrestling star Hana Kimura, who has is believed to have taken her own life after receiving daily online abuse fans, particularly related to episodes that occurred on the show.

Distribution of the ongoing episodes has been discontinued by both Fuji Television and Netflix, with a statement from the official Terrace House Twitter page saying: "We would like to express our sincere condolences over the death of Hana Kimura, who appeared on the program, and we deeply mourn on behalf of the bereaved famiyy. Regarding 2020, we have decided to cancel the production. We take this matter very seriously and we will continue to respond to it in earnest."

Since the passing of Hana Kimura, the Japanese government has discussed strongly punishing those who engage in cyberbullying.
