What goes up must come down, right?

That certainly seemed like an impossibility to this fluffy fellow when he got stuck at the top of a steel pole at Kindai University last week.

On the 29th of May, Ola-chan, the cat made the brave decision to investigate on the behalf of all other cats, what might be at the top of the baseball field pole. However, when Ola-chan reached the top, he was met with an awkward predicament – how was he going to get back down?

Any hillwalker or mountaineer can tell you that descending is when risks are more likely to occur, and of course, when you add in a vertical drop, the probability of a nasty fall is more than doubled. Obviously, when Ola-chan decided to climb up the pole he had not thought that far ahead and found himself in a tricky situation at the top.

Luckily, staff were quick to react and swiftly set up a safety net, in case the cat should fall. Finally, the rescue team arrived and responded to Ola-chan’s calls for help with a ride back down to the safety of lower ground.

Ola-chan understood when the rescue worker came to his aid, and jumped into the safety bag with ease before he was lifted back down to the ground. The rescue was quick and uneventful, bringing Ola-chan’s daredevil climbing stunt to a sudden, yet safe and happy ending.

Ola-chan’s owner, who had rushed to the scene, said that the cat had gotten out by breaking through the screen doors of his home and running off. The owner holds Ola-chan’s safety in the highest regard, and plans to get the screen doors fixed asap.

Kindai University tweeted the situation as it went down, with the first post stating “An incident has occurred”.

430,000 people held their breath as the team rushed to get Ola-chan back to safety, commenting:

  • “Ola-chan is so cute! I’m glad he was reunited safely with his owner!”
  • “Ola-chan’s physical strength is amazing! Those who helped are also amazing! I’m glad you were rescued safely. Thank you all for the rescue”
  • I think it’s safe to say, Ola-chan has had his fill of thrills for this life, but with cats having 9 lives in total, who’s to say what he might get up to next?
