The continued success of The Promised Neverland

"The Promised Neverland" continues to draw attention both at home and abroad. The award-winning manga series, written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu, which follows a group of children in their escape plan from an orphanage, has just finished serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump (August 2016 to June 2020). As of June 2020, over 21 million copies have been sold.

The highly successful anime adaptation is set to get its second season in January 2021, and a live-action film adaptation will hit Japanese theater a month earlier. And in a June 10th announcement which surprised and delighted fans, Amazon Studios revealed it would be making an English-language live-action series together with Fox 21 Television Studios.

The Promised Neverland Special Exhibition

To celebrate the end of the manga's serialization, "The Promised Neverland" will be getting its first official art exhibition at Roppongi Hills' Tokyo City View Sky Gallery, towering high above the city on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer since the exhibition isn't opening until December 11th (and will continue for a month until January 11th), but we have details we can share with you, along with comments from the creators.

Exhibition Content

The exhibition will provide an opportunity for you to fully immerse yourself in the world of “The Promised Neverland.” A number of famous scenes will be featured, you'll see "treasured materials" from before the manga's serialization began, and you'll be able to trace the evolution of the story from the shocking first episode through to the final chapter. You'll admire original drawings in a display which perfectly matches the world of the story as well as various background materials that offer you a glimpse into the creative process. It's sure to be an exciting exhibition which fans won't want to miss. Goods will probably be announced in further updates as the date approaches.

Comments from the creators

It's an exhibition of original artwork!! Demizu Sensei's color illustrations are already beautiful to begin with, but you'll be able to see them all displayed together so you can admire them up close! We have all kinds of things planned, from various interesting displays and maybe even some previously unreleased materials...? We're making it an exhibition which fully expresses the world of "The Promised Neverland" so I really hope you'll enjoy it!

Kaiu Shirai Sensei

This is the exhibition I dreamed of! We'll be displaying color versions of illustrations that were in black and white in the manga tankobon. We're currently filming the process of coloring the illustrations in preparation for the exhibition. Please come see us! It's a bigger venue than ever before, so it's going to be an impressive exhibition.
