Every Day is Fun Raising Both a Cat and Dog

Manga artist Hidekichi Matsumoto (@hidekiccan) continues to share her intimate observations on living with both a cat a dog. Known for works like さばげぶっ (Survival Game Club!) and 猫色保健室 (Cat Colored Infirmary), her latest series 犬と猫とどっちも飼ってると毎日たのしい (Every Day is Fun Raising Both a Cat and Dog) follows her naively angelic dog and tough-on-the-outside, loving-on-the-inside cat. (We previously posted about Matsumoto-san’s manga here.)

In today’s episode, Matsumoto-san reflects on how her pets react when she buys them presents.

If you are a pet owner, you surely have a basket full of toys, clothes, and other specialty pet products which you hoped would bring joy to your dog or cat when you dished out your hard-earned cash. So you should be able to relate to Matsumoto’s experiences…

When Raising a Dog and a Cat, Giving Gifts is Fun Too!

Matsumoto has had trouble finding the right gift for her dog, but not because he’s picky. It’s just no fun when he likes everything…but then she realized he can express his satisfaction to different degrees. He jammed his toy dog in her shoe to show her it’s his favorite!

Her cat on the other hand…you’d think Matsumoto would give up buying her gifts, what with the pile of unused toys and such. But she just loves her cat so much!

As a pet owner, I’ve seen expensive plush toys torn to shreds by my dog in a matter of minutes. And my parents’ cats would rather play with a string than the fancy dangly toys they spend money on.

I guess it’s the thought that counts right?
