Sweet and sour sakura, chocolate chestnut, and jiggly butterscotch jelly are just some of the seasonal Frappuccino flavors Starbucks Japan has released over the years.

Like other brands, Starbucks Japan is embracing the rich flavor of sweet potato for their fall exclusive. This year they'll be releasing a Frappuccino based on a savory and nostalgic Japanese treat called "Daigaku Imo", which uses an entire whole candied sweet potato.

Daigaku imo ("University potatoes") are a candied sweet potato that get their name for being a cheap and dense snack frugal university students would eat to get through the day. They are usually glazed in a syrupy honey and black sesame sauce. Starbucks Japan is recreating the treat by blending an entire serving of daigaku imo into the drink, and then topping it off with a mix of sweet potato and black sesame syrup, topped off with whipped cream.

The Daigaku Imo Frappuccino will go on sale at Starbucks Japan from September 23rd until October 31st, priced at 590 yen (available in Tall sizes only).
