For anyone not in the know, Japan has some fantastic food. From unfamiliar delicacies at izakaya restaurants to home cooked rice bowls, you certainly won’t go hungry from want of good choices. Indeed, in the land of the rising sun it seems almost any restaurant is worth the trouble.

That said, you'd be remiss to think that there is anything better than ramen. Of course, the dish is celebrated across the world, but instant noodles versions are so lacking they practically comprise a crime against humanity. The best bowls of ramen are often found in small shops down dark alleyways and eaten sometime around midnight. In certain situations, robotic delivery may also be possible.

But I don’t need to tell manga artist Ina (inasan_mainichi) any of this. She already knows. The illustrator recently transcribed the story of one of her followers, Koko, who rewards herself after studying by eating especially spicy ramen. Only one night, her midnight snack didn't go as usual.

Finally, it seems Koko’s hard work paid off. Thanks to three friendly strangers.

Readers of the manga enjoyed the heartwarming story. They responded:

  • “What a great story.”
  • “What a kind world we live in.”
  • “Koko must have left the ramen restaurant glowing.”

If you liked this manga, you can find more pieces by Ina on her Instagram. Enjoy.
