When people think of Marunouchi, the first thing that probably comes to mind is this image of salarymen, business, many offices, tall buildings, maybe not much to do around.

However, this is not necessarily true.

Indeed, Marunouchi is full of office workers and buildings, but it has a few hidden gems, fancy cafes, and restaurants, also quite a few places to go and have fun.

During the Christmas season, there are a couple of events and things to do in Marunouchi, and below I will introduce you to a few of my picks:

Go to the newly opened Marunouchi Terrace

Due to the Covid-19, many open-spaces are slowly opening in Japan, too. From the beginning of November 2020, the area’s first rooftop restaurant opened in Marunouchi, as well.

The building has such a wide space, an area of entertainment, many places to relax, eat, and such an interesting and innovative concept.

You can have a relaxing time at the Ginza Barber Shop or choose to polish your shoes at the Shoe Shine Kutsu Migaki Chiba Special!

The open terrace has around 44 seats and allows you to have a nice view of the area from the top of the building while eating delicious dishes, and taking your time to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.

Here is a list of my top recommendations:

The Upper Contemporary Restaurant

The Upper is a fancy restaurant located at the 9/10F of the Marunouchi Terrace. It offers a variety of dishes, all very creative and beautifully arranged.

Marunouchi Base

Marunouchi Base is an American Diner where you can have a delicious burger, play darts, enjoy karaoke, table tennis, and communicate with people in a fun atmosphere.

Ginza Barber Shop

This one is the one I mentioned above.

It is a barbershop that offers a head spa and massage, and besides that, it has such a cool interior decor! It would also make a great surprise for the men in your family this Christmas.

I’m sure they would appreciate the atmosphere and relaxing time Ginza Barber Shop offers to their clients.

You can find out more about the shops and the Marunouchi Terrace on the Marunouchi Terrace Official Website.

Enjoy the Marunouchi Illumination 2020

The many Christmas lights that bring color to the Marunouchi streets will be present this year, as well.
