H.R. Giger x Sorayama Exhibition interfaces two artistic geniuses for the first time

H.R. GIGER x SORAYAMA Exhibition

From December 26th, 2020 to January 11th, 2021, PARCO Co., Ltd. will hold a two-person exhibition entitled "H.R. GIGER x SORAYAMA" at the PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO (Shibuya PARCO), bringing together two artistic geniuses for the first time.

Under the direction of the art gallery NANZUKA in Shibuya, the groundbreaking exhibition will feature paintings and sculptures produced by the two artists, with curation by Shinji Nanzuka and Alessio Ascari, Publisher and Creative Director of the Milan-based international contemporary art magazine kaleidoscope.

In addition to a commemorative book from kaleidoscope, visitors will also be able to purchase exclusive "BE@RBRICK H.R. GIGER" 100%, 400%, and 1000% white and black chrome versions based on a BE@RBRICK (Medicom Toys) which Giger produced when he was alive. Finally, the movie "Dark Star H.R. Giger's World" will be screened at White Cine Quint, along with a related exhibition at 2G TOKYO.

Curator's comments

H.R. Giger and Hajime Sorayama were born on opposite sides of the globe. Although they used conflicting artistic expressions of surrealism and "superrealism," in many ways, they have much in common. Using amazing airbrush techniques, their gynoids reveal to us something which is deeply rooted in the interplay between life and death, power and desire.
