Christmas jumpers have become a big trend in the past few years as a fun way to celebrate the festive season. Now once you hang up your seasonal sweatshirt on 26th December, you can replace it with one inspired by a fan favourite Studio Ghibli films.
Donguri Kyowakoku is a Ghibli merchandise paradise which can be found in various Japanese cities. It has a dizzying range of items including plenty of forays into fashion such as rainwear, casual cosplay loungewear and even quirky accessories inspired by famous scenes from the films.
For these Princess Mononoke themed knitted sweaters, Donguri have teamed up with apparel brand GBL, who specialise in ‘American casual’ style clothes. The same brand also recently released an embroidered Japanese-style jacket featuring My Neighbour Totoro’s Cat Bus.
The wild imagery of Princess Mononoke is instantly recognisable with the giant ferocious wolves and the Shishigami forest spirit. Both have been used as motifs for the jumpers, which have a trendy vintage feel.
Each one costs 10,000 yen (plus tax), and even comes with an added Princess Mononoke label to attest to its authenticity.
The knitted sweaters can currently be preordered online from the Donguri Kyowakoku online store, and they will be sold from 26th December onwards in GBL stores and Donguri Kyowakoku stores with a GBL Corner.
