Sankt Gallen Breweries Co., Ltd., famous for their "Sweets Beer" with flavors like pear and cinnamon apple, will release "Sankt Gallen Sakura," a beer flavored with real cherry blossoms and leaves, on Friday, February 19, 2021, for a limited season until mid-April. The beer, which smells and tastes like sakuramochi, is perfect for the cherry blossom viewing season.

For those who haven't tried it, sakuramochi is a mochi rice cake wrapped in a cherry blossom leaf and infused with its aroma.

The sakura used in Sankt Gallen Sakura is taken from Takatō in the city of Ina, Nagano Prefecture, a famous hanami spot selected as one of the best 100 places for cherry blossoms.

The beer is flavored with cherry blossoms and leaves while using fewer hops, which give the beer its bitterness and aroma. Sixty kilograms of edible double-flowered cherry trees, which are also used to make cherry blossom tea, are used for each brewing.

In addition, Sankt Gallen uses "Rakufu Mai" sake rice grown at the Izumihashi Sake Brewery in Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It adds a rich, sweet flavor unique to rice to the beer. Combined, the two ingredients impart a flavor to the beer which is reminiscent of sakuramochi.
