Beloved Japanese animation giant Studio Ghibli's films are often praised for their beautiful world and character building, charming animation, and fantastic music, but no matter which classic Ghibli classic movie you put on, there seems to be one unifying factor: the food looks mouthwateringly delicious.

If you need a reminder, here's a few examples of drool-worthy meals featured in Studio Ghibli films.

So why is Studio Ghibli able to make the food featured in their films look so tasty? Well, recently Studio Ghibli’s official Twitter account held an open Q&A session with fans, and the question was answered in quite the surprising way by Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki:

Question: "The food that appears in Studio Ghibli films always looks so delicious. Why is that?"

Suzuki: "That's because it's all food that Hayao Miyazaki has actually made in real life himself."

A simple answer, but it makes sense that an anime legend and one as famously obsessed with detail as Miyazaki would seek to recreate meals in his own life as truthfully (and deliciously) as possible. It would also appear that when the legendary director isn't busy standing up to Harvey Weinstein with a sword or making delightful visits to the Studio Ghibli cafe, the director is quite a cook.

Still, if Suzuki's answer is true, that means Miyazaki has actually prepared the "mystery food" in Spirited Away below that was recently revealed to be something quite unusual!
