‘Wagashi’, a term meaning traditional Japanese sweets, come in a range of shapes, colours, and flavours. For anime lovers, this even includes some awesome tributes to various famous characters.

A range which deals in particularly detailed sweets is ‘Tabemasu’. These wagashi, which sometimes appear in Japanese convenience stores, have covered all kinds of popular characters such as Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma. They also took on famous anime like Demon Slayer and Sailor Moon, creating sweet versions of the protagonists.

Their latest character set stars some characters that have appeared previously, but they’re back again for a 2021 version. Conan and Akai Shuichi from classic series Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) have been perfectly recreated as completely edible sweets.

Conan, in his iconic jacket and bowtie combo, has a custard filling, while Shuichi is chocolate flavour and wearing all black.

Both of the sweets are made from nerikiri, which consists of white bean paste and mochi dough. This type of wagashi is easily coloured, moulded and carved so it’s often used to create detailed confections.

Each tasty little character costs 278 yen, and can currently be found in the chilled sweets sections of 7-Eleven across Japan.
