The aesthetic and charm of the Taisho Era (1912-1926) in Japan is often under the name “Taisho Roman” (Taisho Romanticism), with many restaurants and clothing brands adopting the now vintage look of the time.

On September 17th, a celebration of the sweets of that era continued when a Taisho Roman style takeout café opened at Asakusa Taisho Roman Hall.

The menu consists of crepes, fruit punch, soft-serve ice cream, and cream soda, all based on retro style from the Taisho days.

The store has the interior decor of a European style house, with lots of good photo spots. The staff’s uniforms are also in the retro café style, too.

It is located about a 2 minute walk from Asakusa Station’s Kaminari gate, right at the intersection of Nakamise and Denpoin streets.

There is also a gift shop where you can purchase various traditional Japanese souvenirs right next to the cafe. Additionally, a Kimono rental shop is opening in the Hall as well, before the end of the year
