Husband and wife icing cookie artist duo WHIP SUGAR (@YuicihiroG) have been sharing their homemade icing cookies on Twitter and YouTube for some time now. A few of our grape Japan readers may recall seeing their creations inspired by characters from Animal Crossing and Pokémon.

On October 2, 2021, photos of a new creation they posted on their account quickly got noticed.

The motif was a robot soldier from Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky. If you need to refresh your memory, here is a still image from the film:

With its moss-covered body and long, slender arms and legs, this impressive robot had a great impact on viewers, even it only appeared relatively briefly in the film.

Now, here's what a Laputian Robot looks like reproduced by WHIP SUGAR...

This sugar creation is so detailed that you would think it was an anime figure!

Not only the moss and the robot's fingertips but also the fox squirrel on his shoulder are meticulously crafted and reproduced.

Apparently, the creation process was nerve-racking, as the robot's long, thin legs could easily have broken off.

This video shows off how the robot was made. You can't help but admire the craftsmanship that went into it!

In fact, the quality is so high that many people left comments such as:

  • "It's too good to just melt it!"
  • "It looks like it's about to start moving!"
  • "It's so realistic. Amazing work!"

At the end, the robot sank into a hot drink, but even that created an artistic effect!
