When it comes to novelty doughnuts themed around the winter season, there’s plenty of Christmas imagery to be found in various stores. But for celebrating New Year specifically, Krispy Kreme Japan have an adorable offering that they release every year.

Around the holiday season, they unveil a special New Year doughnut, and a set called the ‘Eto Dozen’. Eto means the Chinese zodiac, and the doughnut is inspired by the lucky animal of the coming year.

The animal representing 2022 according to the Chinese zodiac is the Tiger, and Krispy Kreme have come up with a particularly adorable version of the big cat.

The tiger doughnut is filled with custard made with Hokkaido-sourced milk, and has a pudding-flavoured chocolate coating to achieve the bright, golden yellow face. White and dark chocolate have both been used to create his tiger features.

The second offering inspired by the coming year’s animal representative, is the ‘Tiger Choco Crumble’. Using Krispy Kreme’s super popular ‘Original Glazed’ ring doughnut as base, there’s a Ghana chocolate coating and a butter-flavoured crunchy crumble topping.

Lastly, there’s the ‘Strawberry Sprinkle Ring’, another ring doughnut which is topped with a strawberry chocolate coating and sprinkles in seven different colours to express New Year festivities.

There’s New Year sets in various sizes, that also include the snowman doughnut from the Christmas lineup which is currently running.

The New Year doughnuts and corresponding boxed sets will be hanging out on the Krispy Kreme Japan menu from 26th December 2021 until 11th January 2022.
