Sanktgallen brewery is giving a toast to the year of the Tiger with a new limited-edition beer. The new beer is a wheat ale made with yuzu juice from Kanagawa prefecture, and yuzu peels soaked in the beer for more added flavor.
The softness of wheat malt compliments the refreshing citrusy flavor of Yuzu.
The peels are hand-peeled from each fruit for the soaking process. In each production process, approximately 60 kg of Yuzu is used to make the new ale.
Yuzu has traditionally been used for Osechi (Japanese traditional meals for New Years) dishes for its strong citrus aroma, and sometimes is believed to ward off bad fortune, so the ale might make a perfect partner for hot pot, Osechi, and many other meals for the New Year’s.
You can also enjoy this beer on tap served at their taproom near Hon-Atsugi station’s north exit, which opened this past October.
