One of the traditional Japanese pastimes during New Year's time is flying kites. It is said that people started flying kites to pray for good health in the New Year.

On January 3rd, 2022, 横浜ショーン Yokohama Sean (@YokohamaSean) flew a very special kite that his father had made:

Take a look at this amazing kite:

"The kite my dad made. It actually flies.

I never thought about it much but I remembered that my father was a craftsman who did interior decoration and the like (...)"

His father made a magnificent kite in the shape of a sailship! Not only can this kite actually be flown, but when it is released in a good wind, it truly looks like an old-fashioned sailship navigating the clear blue skies.

You can actually see the kite flying in this video:

The impressive sailboat kite soaring in the sky is a fantastic sight, and it could even remind some viewers of the fantastic airships appearing in video games and anime.

The post elicited many comments from people who wished they could fly such a wonderful kite. Other comments included:

  • "This is a kite full of dreams. The father's idea is so wonderful!"
  • "It's so romantic to see a ship flying in the sky! I want to fly it!"
  • "This is amazing. It's so cool."
  • "It's like the flying ship in Peter Pan."

According to Sean Yokohama, this kite was made by his father and had been abandoned for several years. When he returned home for the winter holidays, he decided to fly it, and it "sailed" beautifully in the skies.

Let's hope it brings health and good fortune to him and his family this year!
