Potemayo's creations

Japanese artist ぽてまよ Potemayo (@puchikosan154) loves cute creatures and enjoys making plushies out of wool felt and clay. She also loves games like Zelda, Dragon Quest, The Idolmaster and Pokémon.

When it comes to the latter, her interest in the game is often reflected in her wool felt creations. As you can tell from her Twitter icon, she has a particular fondness for Slowpoke, creating adorable versions in all kinds of poses:

Aw, look. A Slowpoke in bed:

A Spheal with appeal

Her latest plushie has been getting a lot of attention on social media. Here is her version of Spheal, the chubby, spherical, seal-like Pokémon. With its plushy fur and cute shape, it lends itself perfectly to the wool felt medium Potemayo prefers.

"I made a perfectly round Spheal out of wool felt!"

Not only has Potemayo recreated Spheal's spherical shape, but she's also paid attention to all the details, from its pattern with blue with white spots, its rounded ears, stubby flippers, short flat tail, its cute little tusks, and black beady eyes.

He's so adorable you just want to pick him up and give him a hug.

Potemayo's Spheal plushie went viral, garnering over 106,000 likes and 19,400 retweets at the time of writing, and eliciting comments such as:

  • "It's so cute. Could you sell it?"
  • "Wow, that's quite a large size. It must have taken a long time to make! (...)"
  • "Aboslutely adorable! The cute eyes and the shape are wonderful!"
