It’s about time for Japan to fully commit to cherry blossom mania, and that means plenty of seasonal treats to sample while enjoying the beauty of spring. Many places are stocking their shelves with pink offerings and adding blossom-themed stuff to their menus, and that includes fast food restaurants too.

A release which has become a yearly favourite comes courtesy of Shake Shack. The fast food joint is famous not just for burgers, but milkshakes too, so they created the ‘Shack-ura Shake’ as a milkshake with a sakura-inspired flavour. This limited-time-only menu addition only appears for spring, much like the blossoms themselves.

It consists of a fresh vanilla frozen custard base which is made in store every morning, mixed with milk and sakura puree. Similar to the taste of sakura mochi, its sweetness is offset with a subtle salty accent.

The milkshake cups have also received a spring makeover, with delicate pink blossoms adorning the outside (Shack-ura Shake small size only).

These blossom-inspired beverages are on sale now in branches of Shake Shack in Japan until early April. It costs 616 yen for a small size and 814 yen for regular. A store list can be found on Shake Shack Japan’s website.
