Tabelog is a Japanese rating and review site for restaurants around the country, curated by customers as opposed to critics and industry insiders.

The Tabelog Award is an annual event to create a list of tasty restaurants in Japan ranked within the Tabelog website by the user’s votes. This year’s event theme was “HOPE for the FUTURE”, listing places to go hopefully in the wake of the pandemic. The restaurants were nominated based on the high reviews from the consumers on the website, and then were voted to be ranked in the awards of Gold, Silver and Bronze.

As a new feature of the event this year, they have added exclusive interview videos with the award-winning restaurants available on their website.

To give you an idea of what each of those awards really means, here are the quick descriptions of how each category is evaluated:

Gold: The restaurants you’d like to go through lifetime regardless of their locations in the country.

Silver:

The restaurants that you’d want to visit at least once in your life, where you can experience mastery of craftsmanship.

Bronze:

If you want to talk about restaurants, you need to experience these renowned restaurants.

The full list can be viewed in English.

Asides from the three major awards of Gold, Silver and Bronze, they also have “Best New Entry”; restaurants nominated for the first time, and “Best Regional Restaurant”; restaurants that are worth going for, no matter the effort./

This will be a great source to make Bucket-list restaurants to go once the pandemic restrictions slow down, and we can start enjoying dining out again!
