The new way she discovered was surprisingly as simple as letting the ginger soak in water, and putting it in the fridge. From there, all you have to do is to change the water once a week. In the picture shown, Dr. Cat explains that even after 3 weeks the ginger still holds just fine.

According to the twitter user, he used to simply leave ginger on the counter at room temperature, and it would only last for a few days until it got all dry and wrinkly.

Also, you should note that when following this method it is necessary to change the water at least once a week.

There were many other suggestions in the comments on how to preserve ginger for this post./

“It’s very convenient if you grate ginger, put it in a zip-lock bag and freeze it.”

“I also recommend freezing ginger as a whole. You can wet it before grating it to thaw. “

“If you want to store minced garlic or ginger, you can soak it in oil. It stays fresh for up to 2-3 days. You can simply toss it in with the oil in the pan to cook!”

“I like to let it soak in vodka. It lasts for a while, and also the vodka gets a ginger flavor to it and makes it tastier.”

If you’ve ever had trouble keeping your ginger fresh, give these a try!
