Though Japan has plenty of variety when it comes to types of sushi to dine on, there’s one plate in particular that seems to be a comfortable go-to for both those inexperienced in the world of raw fish and for seasoned-sashimi-swallowing masters: salmon.

Perhaps it’s the fact that uncooked salmon doesn’t look too different from when it has been over the flame, or maybe it’s that its mild flavour lacks an overpowering “fishy” taste that could hinder the umami of the whole dish. Whatever the reason, salmon sushi is a long-loved foodie favourite, and has such a large fanbase that it is prompting the opening of a bar that boasts a menu made up of entirely salmon-only dishes.

The suitably named Salmon Holic speciality bar is to be located in Nagoya’s brand new shopping mall Maruei Galleria, with a set opening date of the 26th of May 2022.
For curious readers check out some of their menu items, which we’ve introduced below.

Salmon “Afternoon Tea” Hors d'oeuvre and Champagne

Don’t let the dessert-like appearances fool you, this must-try salmon afternoon tea set consists of a two-tier curate featuring handmade macaroons, cream puffs and cakes made with salmon – real fish cakes, if you must.
The perfectly matched sweet and salty flavours of salmon macaroons, salmon cream puffs and glasses of champagne are truly an addictive collection that should not be missed when visiting Salmon Holic.

Salmon Holic speciality Salmon Taiyaki

There’s something fishy about this grilled taiyaki, and it’s not because of the shape. No. Unlike the sweet fillings of traditional taiyaki pancakes, this version from Salmon Holic is stuffed with tasty savoury salmon paste.

Salmon Holic Potato Salad

Continuing with the theme of sweet-looking savoury things, Salmon Holic’s salmon-blended potato salad features an ice cream wafer cone and comes with a helping of ikura fish roe on the side.

Adult Jewel Roll

Salmon Holic also features a range of various salmon filled california rolls, such as this plate of “Adult Jewel Rolls” which owe their shine to a coating of crunchy sea grape seaweed.

Whilst Salmon Holic may be predominantly a specialty salmon bar, the store has no intentions to only serve up at night and has a range of items available to enjoy for lunchtime including collections of california rolls, seafood donburi bowls, and of course the aforementioned afternoon tea set.
In addition, for a limited time only, the store will be selling a three-colour salmon bowl featuring orange, red and rare yellow salmon roe.

Once opened, Salmon Holic will be serving food daily from 11:00am to 23:00pm. To get to the store head to the address below.
