Umami Egg pop-up cafe

As some of our readers may recall, たまごサンド tamago sando, Japan's take on egg sandwiches, have been trending of late. In addition to the more upscale versions you can now try at restaurants, you don't need to look further than convenience stores to find delicious egg salad sandwiched between soft and fluffy shokupan milk bread or roll bread.

But what if you're vegan or have an egg allergy? Some people within that demographic may be opposed to the notion that they should eat replacements just to "keep up" with non-vegan consumers.

For those in the Tokyo area who don't mind or are curious, however, why not stop by the Umami Egg pop-up cafe on July 1st and 2nd and try a vegan tamago sando for yourself? They come in a set with vegan pudding, too, so you can make a meal out of it!

The egg sandwiches featuring UMAMI EGG 2.0, an egg replacement product made by Umami United Japan Co., blend veggie mayo and seasonings to reproduce the unique flavor, bright appearance, and texture of egg sandwich filling. The soft and fluffy egg sandwiches are sandwiched between egg- and milk-free shokupan bread.

Sandwiches and more

Incidentally, this is the same delicious vegan shokupan bread used in the popular fruit sandwiches sold at the Asakusa Hatoya Vegan Fruit Sandwich shop (Instagram).

Moreover, the puddings which come in the set use Umami United Japan's "Raku Pudding Mix" to create a delicious taste and smooth texture. Not only are the puddings vegetable-based, but they're also free of 28 major allergens. Very popular with children, they're served at several kindergartens and nursery schools in Japan.

Even if you can't make it to the pop-up cafe, you can order their products online here.

Umami United Japan's mission
