Tinder opens new adult-only convenience store SwipeMart in Japan

Convenience stores in Japan can carry a lot of of surprisingly tasty and helpful goods and services, which makes them quite a popular pit stop for everyone. A new one opening in Tokyo might be popular for a very specific crowd, however. Matchmaking and dating app Tinder is opening their very own adult-only convenience store, called SwipeMart, right in the heart of Shibuya.

SwipeMart will carry its own original Tinder-inspired convenience store foods and goods, as well as hopefully be a hub for meetups in the area, according to Tinder.

While SwipeMart will operate as a convenience store selling original food and merchandise, Tinder says the launch of the store is inspired by their "Youth in the Moment" campaign. Citing a dip in in-person meetups during the pandemic and a focus on online, SwipeMart wants to celebrate the return of people being able to convene at and hang out in front of convenience stores (which happens quite often in Japan), and that's why the store is located in Shibuya Center-Gai, just minutes from Shibuya's famous Scramble Crossing and a popular youth hotspot.

Customers will be able to take commemorative photos at a special Swipe Booth, where they can swipe right to like and keep the photo or left to retake it.

Here's a list of some of the Tinder-inspired hot snacks, instant noodles, snacks, drinks, and even fashion that you can buy at SwipeMarket:

Hot and spicy Tinder fried chicken

Super Like Chips

Seishun (Youth) Sours

Like Nope Sandwiches

Tinder long sleeve T-shirts, socks, and underwear

SwipeMart will also be hosting live performances by artists Elle Teresa, Shimamo, Bick and CYK. Advance ticket information can be found here.

SwipeMart, which only admits customers 18 years or older, is open in a temporary pop-up fashion from September 16th (Friday) to September 19th (Monday) over a three day weekend. Its hours of operation are as followers: 12:00noon to5:00am (Friday), 10:00am to 5:00am (Saturday and Sunday), and 10:00am to 11:00pm (Monday).
