At some point, fans of Eiichiro Oda's hugely popular anime and manga series One Piece have probably fantasized about eating a Devil Fruit, fruits in the world of the pirate saga that give those who eat them extraordinary powers at the cost of the ability to swim and a weakness to sea water. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's a possibility in the real world (as far as we know...) but you can enjoy some delicious cakes that look exactly like different Devil Fruits in the series.

There is another option, it seems, and that's to make your own!

Japanese high school student Etoo (@x0JJ4cCbII7TRUX) shocked and delighted loads of One Piece fans on Twitter by announcing they had made their very own real-life reproduction of Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi (Gum Gum Fruit), which bestows the power of becoming a rubber human being on those who eat it.

It's not simply that Etoo recreated the Devil Fruit, however, but that they did so carving one out of a melon, and masterfully etched the fruit's distinct pattern into the melon!

The melon looks like the spitting image of Luffy's Devil Fruit, so much so that you'd be tempted to eat it and try and pick up some rubbery powers. Fans were blown away by the level of detail, with one jokingly offering to buy one for 500 million yen (which given the price of melons in Japan, may not be that hyperbolic of a joke). Etoo jokingly said that they used their own Devil Fruit power to make the melon, but later admitted that they started working on etching the designs into it while it was still very small.

Etoo also said that if feedback was positive for this one, they would next get to work on Ace's Devil Fruit. Safe to say that one is in the works.
