Doi Gen's detailed marbled sculpture is actually that of a chambered nautilus, a cephalopod said to have first appeared roughly 500 million years ago! Using a variety of chisels, tools, and other machinery, the student faithfully reproduced the fascinating creature down to each individual tentacle. The sculpture has exploded in popularity on Twitter, with some in the comments wondering if it were an actual fossil or a depiction of something from the universe of H.P. Lovecraft.
