Kirsty Mitchell is a photographer with an awesome talent for creating a surreal and dreamlike universe in her beautiful artwork. Her recently finished project, "Wonderland", was born as a method of coping with the loss of her mother, who died of brain cancer. She writes on her website that "Photography became my only escape when I could no longer talk about how I felt. It became an utter fantasy that blocked out the real world, and a place where I could return to my memories of her, far away from those hospitals walls...”

In describing the fantastical characters in her photography, she explains that "they were the faded memories of the stories my mother read to me as a child, mainly their original book illustrations, mixed up with dreams and the underlying sadness of my adult grief."

There is certainly a lot of great work going on in this imaginative series of photos. Gorgeous shots with lively colors, detailed costumes, and a fairy-tale like world that you can almost hear breathing. Take some time to enjoy her work and look at her site as well.
