October 21st, 2015 might be a momentous day in human history.

Why?

Because Back to the Future Part II, that’s why.

In the second installment of the Back to the Future trilogy, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel to the future in their DeLorean time machine to prevent McFly’s future son from ending up in prison. That day just so happens to be October 21st, 2015, which is less than two weeks away.

In anticipation to this, Japanese Twitter user @simteck wrote a tweet that has now been retweeted over 20,000 times.

On the 21st of this month at 4:00pm (America time), a high schooler and a white-haired scientist will arrive via their DeLorean time machine from the year 1985. If anyone sees them, please tell them that the story of their adventures still lives on to this day. #10/21/2015

This tasteful tweet received a lot of response from other Twitter users:

1. "Will do."

2. "Roger that!"

3. "Martyyyyy!!!!"

4. "You almost made me cry."

5. "What an elegant thing to say."

6. "We’re living in their future…"

In fact, it’s already been 30 years since the first Back to the Future movie came out in 1985!

7. "I’ll be waiting with my pockets sticking out of my pants." (In reference to Doc’s line in the movie, “Pull out your pants pockets. All kids in the future wear their pants inside-out.”)

8. "But… what about the time difference?"

… Let’s not get too technical.

Regardless of whether they show up or not, it’s a good chance to stop for a moment and contemplate how time has zipped by… and a totally legitimate excuse to cozy up at home and have a movie marathon.

And in case they do show up on the 21st, we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears wide open (wearing our pants inside-out, of course).
