Now You Can Eat Food From Ghibli Movies At Home!

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a Ghibli movie without wanting to eat whatever the characters were eating — they just make everything look so good.

A lot of people seem to feel the same way, so we’ve collected recipes of some of the most mouth-watering Ghibli dishes that you can try yourself at home! Making food has never been so fun.

Onigiri from Spirited Away

A classic Japanese dish, onigiri (also called omusubi) are rice balls you can eat plain or with salmon, umeboshi (picked plums), or whatever you want to put inside. Wrap some dried laver around it for added flavor, or go without if you want to keep things nice and simple!

2. Ramen from Ponyo

There’s a whole “ramen culture” now, and even though there are so many unbelievably tasty ramen out there, sometimes you don’t want anything too fancy. That’s when you can try this ramen that Sosuke’s mom made for him and Ponyo.

3. Bacon and eggs from Howl’s Moving Castle

Pretty self-explanatory, so you probably don’t need a recipe for this one. But we’ll give you one anyway, since we love these bloggers’ enthusiasm for Calcifer.

Okayu (rice porridge) isn’t something most people eat for dinner anymore, but it’s really yummy and makes for great food when you’re sick in bed.

6. Herring pot pie from Kiki’s Delivery Service

Yes, you can actually make this at home. The recipient of this special delivery didn’t seem to like it too much in the movie, but you might! It looks kind of hard, but it’s so awesome we’re tempted to try…

7. “Aji furai” (horse mackerel) from Up On Poppy Hill

You have to try these, because anything “furai” (fried) is amazingly good. If fish isn’t your thing, sprinkle some salt on the horse mackerel, leave for about 10 minutes, and pat away the moisture to minimize the fishiness.

8. Toast from Laputa: Castle in the Sky

This is also very self-explanatory, so we’ll spare you the how-to. Here’s a picture though to keep your appetite going, this one with bacon.

These cakes were considered old school until they resurfaced after The Wind Rises came out. Try them with a hot cup of English tea, just like in the movie!
