Pigment is a recently opened specialty arts store located in Tokyo. While one's eyes will immediately be drawn to the massive wall of colorful pigments on display, all it will take is a quick glance at the sea of bamboo sticks and wide-open wooden spaces to feel the sense of traditionalism and imagination architect Kengo Kuma had in mind.

As art techniques are growing in harmony with advancing technology, many artistic practices traditional to Japan and other parts of Asia are unfortunately being neglected. That's why Pigment keeps their store stocked with over 4,200 pigments, as well as hundreds of glues, antique-style brushes, paper, and other tools, some of which date back to the Meiji period.

With this supply, they hope to inspire modern artists to incorporate old techniques into their work, and have a place to turn to for harder to find tools. They write on their website that "Painting tools support the creation activities of artists. We have gathered rare, good quality painting tools that have been passed down for generations in Japan and Asia."
