January 2, 1966. "Ultra Q" - known by some as the father of Japanese special effects drama - was broadcast for the first time. Then in July of the same year, another special effects drama had started. And that was "Ultraman".

Tsuburaya Production, who created the Ultra-series, are planning to hold a wide variety of projects this year, as it marks the 50th anniversary since the first broadcast.

The first of which is the video that showcases the heroic sequence from the past Ultra-series, and it includes footage of all Ultra heroes:

Both the name and the looks are simple, yet the original Ultraman design is great. Every Ultraman, after all, derives from this beauty.

Ultraseven has some science fiction backdrop and a wide variety of appealing settings. There are apparently a lot of fans because of this. The final episode is simply unforgettable!

Return of Ultraman

A.k.a. Jack. He is perhaps the Ultraman best suited with a sunset backdrop. Ultra bracelet (a gift from Ultraseven) is a pretty cool weapon.

Ultraman A

This features a unique setting where Hokuto and Minami comes together with "Ultra touch". This is also where the concept "Ultra brothers" was born.

This is the first Ultraman that was born outside of Nebula M78. His brother Astra was also very popular.

The★Ultraman

It was a slightly different type of Ultraman as it appeared in anime form. There is another anime work called Ultraman USA, which was broadcast in the US.

Ultraman Great was produced in Australia, and Ultraman Powered was produced in the US.

Ultraman Zearth

Ultraman Zearth was born from a commercial with a Japanese gas company. It was a comedic Ultraman, starring one of the most well known Japanese comedian.

Ultraman Tiga, Dyna and Gaia are three big names from the 90s and onwards.

Nice, Neos, Cosmos, Nexus, Max, Mebius

More Ultraman characters kept on appearing like a production line! For classic Ultraman fans, I bet it's hard to tell them apart!

Ultraman Ginga S, Ultraman X

Recent Ultraman series like Ginga S and X is extremely complex. For instance, a young boy can turn into an Ultra brother or monsters using various dolls; convert into powered suit of a monster using a mobile device. A 21st-century twist to Ultraman.

Now we have so many - 41 Ultra fighters. It's one big family.

With plenty of room for further growth, the world of "the Ultra" can grow forever. This 50th anniversary could be a good opportunity to get (re-)accustomed to Ultraman.
